Moving a Materials Database

The secret to transferring the material database from one computer to another is, first, to open the “Utilities” folder on the machine which contains the “good” database, i.e., the one which contains the material data that you want to transfer to the other machine.

To do this, start SOLIDCast and load any model. Hold down the CTRL key on the keyboard and select Help from the main SOLIDCast menu. You should see a choice which is “View Utilities Location“. Click this and the Utilities folder will open.

Now find the file named Alloy Database.xml. This contains the data for alloys and mold materials. Copy this file onto a flash drive or into another folder where its location is known.

Now this file should be copied to the second computer, into the Utilities folder. You can use a flash drive or send the file as an email attachment, whichever is more convenient. On the second computer, start SOLIDCast and load any model. Hold down the CTRL key on the keyboard and select Help from the main SOLIDCast menu. As before, you should see a choice which is “View Utilities Location“. Click this and the Utilities folder will open.

Now copy the file Alloy Database.xml into this folder on the second computer. Windows will display a message asking if you want to overwrite the existing file; select the option to copy and replace.

Now exit and restart SOLIDCast, and you should have the same materials on the second computer as on the first.
