A Practical Approach to Designing Gating and Feeding Systems
for the Production of High-Quality Iron Castings

May 19-21, 2015 in Fairborn(Dayton), OH

Are you using the best methods for designing gating and risering systems to produce sound iron castings? Iron castings are notoriously complex in how they behave during solidification, and proper design and placement of rigging systems requires a foundation of understanding that many designers lack. In this extraordinarily practical seminar, Jeff Meredith, one of the best-known foundry consultants in the Southern Hemisphere, offers unique insights into the hows and whys of good casting process design.

Mr. Meredith, who has consulted for a range of foundries from the “Big Three” automotive to job shops across several continents, has a unique ability to distill years of foundry and metallurgical experience into practical advice that you can apply immediately to improve your design methods. Subjects covered in this two and one-half day seminar will be:

.

Day 1

  • Solidification mechanisms of graphitic irons: Ductile vs. Gray cast iron.
  • Factors affecting solidification mechanisms.
  • Practical approaches to riser design.
  • Common problems encountered with feeding of graphitic cast irons.
  • Discussion of feeding problems.

Day 2

  • Gating considerations for graphitic irons.
  • Design of gating systems.
  • A systematic approach to defect diagnosis.
  • Identification and corrective measures for graphitic iron casting defects.
  • Discussion of specific casting defects.

Day 3

  • Using SOLIDCast/FLOWCast simulation software as an aid to riser design.
  • Using SOLIDCast/FLOWCast simulation software as an aid to gating design.

Examples will be shown of practical gating and riser design using simulation software. All seminar attendees will receive a FREE 45 day license for SOLIDCast/FLOWCast, so that you can directly apply the principles learned at this seminar immediately to your own castings back at the shop!

If your business involves production, engineering, quality control or purchasing of iron castings, then you should seriously consider attending this seminar. You will gain practical knowledge that is not available elsewhere.
